Police are trying to figure out who stole the fuel from two vehicles at some local businesses in Edmond.

Officers first responded to the report of the crime on February 27. An employee at the DM Mailing Services, located at 223 S. Coltrane Road, said sometime on February 25 or 26, someone punctured the gas tank of one of the company's vans and stole the gasoline.

Officers found a full-length garden hose on the ground on the south side of the van. A section of the hose had been cut away. Police said it appears the suspects cut the hose, and used it to siphon the gas from the punctured tank.

The employee said this is the fourth time in two months that gasoline has been stolen from one of the company's vehicles.

The Purple Burro business, located at 231 S. Coltrane Road, also fell victim to the crime. Police said the suspects siphoned the gasoline from a non-working vehicle that is registered to the business.

There was no damage to that vehicle as the suspects siphoned the fuel from the gas opening, according to the police report.

Police say the best way to protect your vehicle is to put it in a garage or storage. You can also buy a locking gas cap to prevent thieves from siphoning the gas. Police also say gas theft happens more than it's reported.

If you have any information, contact Edmond police at (405)-359-4420.
