Our First Trip to the Grocery: Only 2 Meltdowns

I never thought I'd be excited to take a trip to the grocery! But after about 3 weeks inside, I'm getting a little stir crazy. So when we needed some lunch meat and a few other things, it seemed like a good excuse to put Gage in the car seat and head to the grocery store. Let me just say, it's a good thing I went during the week, during the day, and to a small grocery store. And that's because there weren't too many people to disturb by the magnitude of my little man's lungs! At first everything was going well. The baby carrier was rocking him gently in the back of the shopping cart. But then I slowed down to talk to some other shoppers. BIG mistake! That was just enough for him to think, "What's going on? Why'd we just stop – AHHHHHH!" I had a pacifier, but we were beyond that. I started thinking, what can I live without? What can I mark off my grocery list in order to get out of here quick? And then the crying stopped. Whew. But then it started again. I did forget 2 things on my list, but I didn't care. We survived our first trip to the grocery store. But FYI, if I see you in the grocery store and we want to catch up, we'll have to do so walking the aisle or risk a meltdown!

It Changes Everything

I knew life would change after I had a child. What I didn't count on was how it would also change how I think about things. It's amazing how a baby changed my prospective and how I would do anything to protect my little guy. For instance, we've lived here almost 6 years now, and never talked seriously about getting a storm shelter in our house… until now. That kind of sounds bad to say (it would be awful if something happened to Nick and I know he feels the same about me!). But when I look at this little being who depends solely on me, I want to do all I can to keep him safe and healthy and happy. There's no doubt something changes in you when you become a parent. We put in a storm shelter yesterday :)

No One Warned Me: Poo-Splosions

Before I had Gage, I was given a lot of advice/warnings: Make sure you get a lot of sleep now, be careful while changing him, you might get sprayed, (which I learned the hard way), etc. But no one ever warned me that poo can go flying! I became very much aware of this the other day as I was changing his dirty diaper. I made sure I had a peepee tee-pee handy and I thought all disaster had been avoided. But then, all of a sudden, it happened. Poo, like a missile, came shooting out! It went at least a foot, and I'm not exaggerating. I didn't even think that was possible! I was changing him on our bathroom counter, which was probably a good thing because it was easier to clean up than if it would have happened on the changing pad in his room. I'm not exactly sure how to avoid a repeat of this, but I'd welcome any advice!
