Witnesses say it was a violent killing that played out before the eyes of many public transit commuters. One man tells News 9 the woman was stabbed about 15 times in her neck before help arrived. Paramedics desperately tried to save this woman's life, but their efforts failed.

Police say the victim was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after the attack.

"That's crazy … it's scary," witness Jamila Matthews said.

Witnesses say the victim was walking out of the bus station when the suspect began stabbing her repeatedly in the neck.

"It happened so quick that security couldn't come and help," witness Denna Ross said. "As soon as she got up to leave, she started getting stabbed."

Police say the suspect was held by a bus station security guard before officers arrived. Police carted Tryon to jail around 11 a.m. Friday. Police say many people saw the crime, which police believe will help in their investigation.

"I heard [the victim] screaming," Ross said. "She was … in the corner … couple seconds later, she was just laying there unconscious in a puddle of blood."

Sources tell News 9 that the victim and suspect were dating.
