A hero's homecoming was waiting, Thursday, for an Edmond police officer who was injured while serving in Afghanistan.
Kyle Stoy, a member of the National Guard, was seriously injured when a vehicle he was riding in hit an IED. In that explosion Stoy nearly lost his foot. Now months later after extensive rehab, he's finally home.
Thursday he got a special surprise from his fellow police officers.
"I just don't get to see him every day. It's like ‘Where is my dad?'" said daughter Kylie Stoy.
Once her father arrived at Will Rogers Airport he was greeted with a standing ovation, followed by hugs and handshakes and a ‘Welcome Home'.
"Its surreal, flying over you look out of the airplane and see that familiar, flat land. No mountains as far as the eye can see. It's a lot different from Afghanistan. When I saw that I got a bit emotional," said Stoy. "I have lived here all my life, but I am glad to be back.
"I am probably going to have to learn to walk all over again. It is going to be tough, a challenge, but I know I am ready for it."
In addition to healing, Stoy has another job: wedding planning. He will wed his fiancée on September 8.
