The girl, who wants to remain anonymous, and another UCO freshman were walking across a street in the heart of campus just after eight on Thursday night March 29.

Police say a light-colored van with tinted windows slammed into the girls, then sped away.

"I don't remember anything else. When I got hit I don't remember the ambulance or anything. That's a scary place to be," the victim said.

Close friends say the girl is recovering from a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, a dislocated shoulder and torn ligaments in her left knee.

The girl says her friend who was hit suffered several broken ribs.

"He should have at least stopped and helped us," the victim said.
