May is recognized as Cystic Fibrosis Awareness month, and News 9's own Stan Miller joined the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in their quest to find a cure.

The Sooner Chapter of the foundation hosted the Great Strides Walk at Route 66 Park near Lake Overholser.

The Great Strides Walk is the foundation's largest national fundraising event. Last year, nearly $38 million was raised to support vital programs for patients and their families.

"We are very near the finish line of changing this disease and rewriting medical books. So this is incredibly heartwarming to see so many people care and give," one of the event organizers said.

About 70,000 people worldwide have cystic fibrosis, and 1000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
