The man who claimed he had an explosive device in southwest Oklahoma City is now in police custody.
Oklahoma City police first arrested the man near S.W. 3rd Street and Meridian Avenue after responding to reports of car break-ins in the area. When police arrived, they found two suspects, the man and a woman. Police found meth in the woman's pocket and arrested her on complaints of possession of a controlled substance. The man had warrants out on him and was also arrested. However, the man then alerted police he had an explosive device on him. Police handcuffed the man and then backed away.
The Oklahoma City bomb squad and the Oklahoma City Fire Department were called in and blocked off a one block area in front of the Biltmore Hotel.
Members of the bomb squad talked with the man and soon after discovered something in the man's pocket, but would not confirm or deny whether it was an explosive device. The item was left in the parking lot as the man was taken into police custody.
The bomb squad and other officials remain at the scene and the area is still blocked from the public.
