Oklahoma City police arrested two 16-year-old boys accused of beating an ice cream vendor and robbing him of $84.
On Sunday afternoon, Fidel Ramirez was selling ice cream from a portable freezer attached to a bicycle. Ramirez said he was just doing his job at Woodson Park on S. May, making whatever money he could, when a group of at least three teenagers walked up to him, and attacked him.
Ramirez said they punched him repeatedly before grabbing his money and running away. He suffered two breaks to his jaw, a busted nose and multiple cuts and bruises.
"It hurts," Ramirez said through a translator.
The vendor said the teens noticed him counting money then came over and attacked him.
The police were called, and officers caught suspects Alfred Christopher Proctor and Zquareus Thomas near the park. Police arrested the teens and recovered Ramirez's money.
Because of the serious nature of the crime, Proctor and Thomas were booked into the Oklahoma County jail instead of being taken to the juvenile detention center. Both 16 year olds were charged with aggravated battery.
Police say more suspects were involved in the attack, and they are still searching for them.
Fellow venders and community members are now collecting money to help pay for Ramirez's medical needs.
