Around 10:15 a.m., a 6-year-old girl being held hostage by her father in Del City was released, and her father was found dead inside the house.

The standoff began Wednesday morning when a woman called 911 at 7:30 a.m. She said her 29-year-old boyfriend broke into her house that morning, and took her and their two daughters -- ages 6 and 2 -- hostage in the 1900 block of Karen Drive. She managed to escape with the 2 year old, but the 6-year-old girl remained inside the house.

Police responded and approached the house. They said when they got close, the suspect fired a gunshot. Police backed off and called in the SWAT team and emergency medical crews.

Police evacuated nearby homes and closed Karen Drive while they try to convince the man to release his daughter and leave the house.

Just after 10 a.m., the girl came running out of the house. She was put in an ambulance and checked for injuries.

Minutes later, the suspect's family was seen screaming and crying. Police then confirmed they found the suspect's body when they went inside the house. Police believe he shot himself.

The suspect's mother, Wanda Frazier, spoke to News 9's Rusty Surette. She said her son's name is Shalwan LeShore, and he and the children's mother had been involved in an on-and-off relationship for 10 years. Before police told her of LeShore's death, she said she didn't believe this was a hostage situation, and her son would never hurt his children.
