A man who thought he was getting a ride home from a friendly stranger was instead robbed at gunpoint near Interstate 44 and S.W. 149th Street.
Police said the robbery happened August 12, but they just released information about the crime after obtaining surveillance images of the suspect.
The 20-year-old victim told police his friends abandoned him, so he walked to Newcastle Gaming Center. He was wearing a backpack, and was not allowed to go inside the casino.
The victim said he met a man in the parking lot who was locked out of his truck. He and two casino employees helped the man get into his truck. Afterward, the victim asked the man if he would drive him to Wal-Mart.
Police said instead of driving the man to the store, the suspect pulled over at I-44 and S.W. 149th Street and pulled out a gun. He stole the victim's cash, cell phone, and laptop. He then forced the victim out of the vehicle. The victim walked and found help. He was not hurt.
Police have released photos of the suspect and his pickup truck taken by security cameras at the casino. Anyone who recognizes the man or the vehicle is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
