Del City will begin installing this week a new warning system that will help warn residents during severe weather and emergencies.
Del City voters approved a $3 million bond issue in July 2011 to purchase the system. It includes eight new sirens that will be installed in the middle of each square mile section of the city. The sirens are solar-powered, have pre-recorded messages, and the ability to announce live messages.
The first siren will be installed Wednesday at Eagle Lake in the 3400 block of E. Reno.
The city will also purchase new fire equipment with the money from the bond. That includes two rescue pumpers and an aerial truck. A contractor is still building the vehicles. It's not known when they'll be finished.
