News 9 and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma are committed to ending childhood hunger in Oklahoma.
Over half of the Regional Food Bank's 90,000 emergency food recipients each week are children. That's more than 45,000 Oklahoma children who are hungry.
Food is the most essential school supply that there is. This is why News 9 has partnered with the Regional Food Bank to raise donations for the Food for Kids program.
Join News 9's Amanda Taylor at the Oklahoma State Fair Tuesday, September 18th. She will be collecting monetary donations at the News 9 booth located just inside of Gate 1. For every $5 donated to the Regional Food Bank Backpack Program you will receive one entry to win a King Size Mattress Set from Bob Mills Furniture, plus a spin on the News 9 Prize Wheel.
Started in 2003, the Food for Kids Backpack Program provides chronically hungry children with backpacks filled with non-perishable, kid-friendly food to eat on weekends and school holidays. Backpack foods include: peanut butter, fruit cups, cereal, raisins and more. Food for Kids has grown significantly since 2003, serving 475 elementary schools in 53 counties across central and western Oklahoma, providing backpacks to 13,500 chronically hungry children each week during the 2011-2012 school year. The program continues to expand, with new schools being added each semester, but we need help from Oklahomans like you so we can help even more children!
