A metro man caught a thief in the act of breaking into his home, then took matters into his own hands. He chased the burglar then held him down, and he's not the only one who helped put the accused burglar in jail.

It happened Thursday night, at a home located in the 12000 block of Cedar Springs Rd. in Oklahoma City. The whole neighborhood worked together to catch the thief and chase him down until police arrived.

The bold homeowner, Towns Holmbroe, just closed on his house last month. He says it was a heck of a way to meet his new neighbors.

"I pulled in my driveway, walked in the front and then saw somebody dart off from the front porch. If I hadn't seen something of mine I probably wouldn't have gone after them," Towns Holmbroe said.

He said he saw his rifle case in Micah Thames' hands.

"It is one of those things you spring into action, I guess it was just instinct. I didn't think much of it at the time," Holmbroe said.

The accused thief ran, but didn't get far.

"I took off and ran like three houses up and jumped in one of my neighbor's backyard, and they were nice enough to call the police," he said.

So did another neighbor who was taking out the trash. 911 reportedly got three calls back to back. While some neighbors called for help, the former football star tackled Thames.

"Then we wrestled to the front yard then honestly laid on him till the cops came," he said.

When police went to the victim's home, they discovered that several items were missing, including a TV, a gun, six state championship rings and more.

Thames was booked into jail on charges including burglary, possession of a firearm, and possession of drugs and bringing contraband into jail. He was released on bond Monday.
