Although a jury convicted Billy Thompson of stabbing Sanchez to death, a judge order a new trial for the convicted killer after learning prosecutors withheld evidence in the case. Sanchez's family initially worried about the second trial, but now they have new concerns.
David Slane represents the family, and says he and new prosecutors assigned to the case are dedicated to working against any request to dismiss the murder charge against Thompson, and are hopeful for a second conviction.
Now the family hopes things can be made right for Manuel Sanchez, and their peace of mind.
District Attorney David Prater told us he does not think there is any legal basis to sustain this motion, and his office is working aggressively against it, and is mostly sorry to hear it will cause another delay for the family.
Thompson's new trial was set for October 15, but has now been continued. We will be following this case and bring you any updates.
