An elderly couple claims a contractor took off with their hard earned money. Bethany Police are investigating the complaint and they say they've detected a pattern with a contractor working in the area.

Investigators accuse Shane Thomas of picking up a job collecting money from the customer and then not paying to get the job done.

Nick Pittman is not using his disabilities as sympathy, but rather, the reason for the remodel to his home.

Instead, Pittman says things became more difficult. Pittman says he hired Shane Thomas Frameworks to build a handicap bathroom, and claims he even paid up front for some of the costs. But more than two months after signing a contract with the company, the job remains unfinished.

Bethany Police say they've identified multiple subcontractors and homeowners in a similar situation with the company.

Shane Thomas refused an on camera interview, but explains the situation saying he underbid the jobs in the neighborhood and is already taking a loss on the projects, and was waiting on new revenue to pay his subcontractors.

Thomas said the Pittmans will also get $4,000 back from insurance that his company was entitled to receive. But Pittman says that's not enough.

Shane Thomas has not been arrested or charged. Bethany police say they plan to present embezzlement charges to the district attorney by the end of the week

We found previous lawsuits against the company. Attorney Michael Lloyd represents one and tells us the circumstances are similar and there is a $10,000 judgment in that case.
