LOGAN COUNTY -- A would-be burglar is caught in the act at a make-shift car lot in Logan County. Deputies saw the suspect breaking into a truck for sale at the intersection of Waterloo and Bryant Avenue in Edmond. The suspect, 31-year-old Michael William McCaulla, Jr., then led deputies on a pursuit that ended in Piedmont.

The incident now has triggered the Logan County Sheriff's Office to warn others who are trying to sell their vehicles here.

Captain Richard Stephens calls it good policing, on the capture of McCaulla.

"You gotta be in the right place at the right time," he said.

That was the case when Stephens said a Logan County deputy caught McCaulla breaking into a truck that was for sale by owner. And it's not the first time a crime has been reported here.

"We have lots of burglaries here," Captain Stephens said. "People breaking into vehicles and stealing vehicles, trailers, boats and ATV's."

It's not illegal to park your vehicle here and slap a for sale sign on it, but the Logan County Sheriff's Office said if you do, it's at your own risk.

"There's almost no traffic here after midnight," Stephens said. "Unless you see someone driving by, they're going to have their way with it here. It's completely unlit at night."

In fact, Captain Stephens says his office receives reports from this particular location weekly, averaging around five to 10 items a month stolen or burglarized.

"Probably not a great idea to leave your vehicles here overnight, certainly not a great idea to bring them here unlocked," he said.

As far as McCaulla Jr., he faces various charges including attempted burglary, aggravated eluding deputies and possession of stolen property.
