OKLAHOMA CITY -- This weekend, many Americans are honoring our veterans, but here in Oklahoma, one veteran received more than he expected: a newly renovated home.

Deric and Amanda Isaac's home was crumbling down around them and their four young children.

"The roof was so bad, one room was so deteriorated that the wall was caving down," said Amanda Isaac.

So, Deric, a local veteran of the Air National Guard, applied for the Veterans Critical Home Repair program through the Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH). The program is sponsored by The Home Depot Foundation.

"We were working to get this house fixed one project at a time," said Deric. "But all of the critical things have been addressed."

Through the program, the Isaac's not only got a new roof and guttering system, but volunteers also rebuilt the crumbling room on the back of the house and converted it into a new, large kitchen and laundry area. They also received new flooring, cabinets, and paint and light fixtures.

"The mold and all the water damage that came through under the carpet, they helped us replace that, so now we have a cleaner, safer place for our kids," said Amanda.

"It's beyond words," said Deric. "We're so thankful."

The Isaac's were given the keys to their newly renovated home on Saturday, during a dedication ceremony inside the home on N.E. 68th Street.

The Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity is one of 84 Habitat for Humanity affiliates that participate in the Veterans Critical Repair Program. In fact, the group is currently taking applications to take on more projects.
