A former nursing home aide at Quail Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center pleaded guilty Wednesday to abusing an elderly resident.

Lucy Gakunga pleaded guilty to abuse and neglect by a caretaker. A judge sentenced her to a seven-year suspended sentence, except for the first two years. She will have to serve 85 percent of that sentence. Gakunga was also fined $1,000.

Police arrested Gakunga, an illegal immigrant from Nigeria, and another nursing home worker, Caroline Kaseke, on April 16 after video surfaced of a resident being abused. The family of 96-year-old Eryetha Mayberry had hidden a camera in her room, and captured video of the elderly woman being assaulted.

Kaseke, a Nigerian citizen, is also charged with abuse and neglect by a caretaker. Police have not arrested her because they can't find her. They're not sure if she's still in Oklahoma, or even still in the United States.
