OKC Police Officer Killed In Crash Laid To Rest

An Oklahoma City police officer killed in a horrible car crash last week is laid to rest on Monday.

It was a very emotional tribute for Sgt. Ryan Elsass, and hundreds were there to pay their respects. But the most touching part was when the letter his son wrote was read at his memorial service.

Friends, family, and fellow officers filled the sanctuary and funeral home in northwest Oklahoma City to honor and say goodbye to Sgt. Ryan Elsass, a 12 year veteran of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Several tears were shed as the Oklahoma City Police Chaplain shared stories about Sgt. Elsass. But nothing touched everyone more than the letter written by his only son.

Sgt. Elsass received full police honors at his service, including an escort by Air One, an honor guard escort, and a 21 gun salute.

For those who knew him, he will be remembered for his love of life, love of people, love of his job, and love for his son.

Sgt. Elsass was laid to rest at the memorial park cemetery, where several other Oklahoma City police officers are also buried. He is survived by his son, his mother, and his grandmother.

Sgt. Elsass would have turned 40 this week. Both he and his girlfriend's best friend died when the car she was driving flipped several times on Western Avenue in Logan County.
