Firefighters responded to another fire at the abandoned Lantana Apartments at NW 10th St. and Greenvale Rd. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, which they say was apparently started in a building that was badly damaged in a fire about a year ago.
Nobody was injured in the fire, those crews exited the structure when the ceiling began to sag from all the water.
Fire crews said responding to these fires has been a waste of time and resources, adding that many of the buildings on the ground should have been torn down a while ago.
All of the entrances into the apartment complex were padlocked but that was not enough to keep people out.
Firefighters say several homeless people love in the buildings that still have roofs.
