Two lanes of westbound Interstate 40 in Canadian County have reopened following a deadly crash that Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers are calling one of the worst accidents they've ever seen.

Witnesses told troopers a woman driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-40 near the Kilpatrick Turnpike around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, slammed into the a semi hauling groceries. The vehicle bounced off the truck then struck another semi. The collision with the first truck caused a fiery explosion, and the flames quickly engulfed the car.

"It is very horrific. It is one of the worst ones I have seen," said Lt. Mark Reynolds. "It's just very tragic."

The driver of the car was killed. Troopers say she was from out of state, but they have not released her name. The drivers in the semi-trucks were not hurt.

The fiery crash scattered burning debris across the highway and spilled hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel. Troopers shut down all westbound lanes of I-40 between Morgan Road and the Kilpatrick Turnpike for several hours. By 9:30 a.m., they'd reopened two lanes.
