Oklahoma City Police have reopened southbound lanes of Interstate 235 near Interstate 44 after investigating a wrong-way crash that sent three people to the hospital.

Around 3:30 a.m. Friday, police received calls that a man, identified as 29-year-old Ivan Nitsch, was driving a white van north in the southbound lanes of I-235.

A few minutes later, the van crashed head-on into a Yellow Cab taxi. The van rolled over onto its top. Nitsch was trapped until firefighters freed him. His condition is not known.

Benny Wadsworth, 37, was driving the taxi. His condition is very critical.

An unidentified passenger in the backseat of the taxi was hurt but police say it doesn't appear the passenger's injuries are life-threatening.

Oklahoma City Police don't know why Nitsch was going the wrong way on the interstate.

The southbound lanes reopened just before 7:30 a.m.
