A 35-year-old Texas man has been arrested for the shooting death of an Oklahoman in Beckham County almost five years ago.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said Thursday that Gordon Myson Splinter II was arrested Wednesday at his home in Amarillo, Texas. The OSBI says Splinter was arrested on a first-degree murder warrant for the April 9, 2008, shooting death of 35-year-old Michael Smith outside Smith's home in Erick.

The OSBI and the Beckham County Sheriff's Office investigated the case for months until it became cold.

The OSBI says that about a year ago agents identified new leads and found witnesses who have identified Splinter as running from the area where Smith was shot.

OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown did not know if Splinter had an attorney.
