Bison Just Shy In Losses At OCU

Fourth-ranked Oklahoma City scored a pair of one-run wins against No. 10 Oklahoma Baptist in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball opener for both schools at OCU Thursday, 5-4 and 3-2.

The Stars won in a walk-off in the opener after OBU took the lead in the top of the seventh.

The Bison took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI triple by Yael Colon and a run-scoring ground out by Greg Nelson.

The Stars scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth to take a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh.

With two out and two on, Nelson ripped a two-run double for a 4-3 OBU lead, but the Stars scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on three hits and an error.

Johnathan Christensen went into the fifth, allowing two run and getting five strikeouts. Brandon Willard took the loss.

OBU had five hits in the game with Nelson getting two to go with his three RBI.

The Stars scored twice in the first inning of the second game, but the Bison tied it in the top of the fifth when Nelson again produced a two-run, two-out double.

But OCU got a home run from Chris Munoz in the fifth and held on.

OBU had four hits in the game, including two by Colon.

Eric Fredrick went the distance for OBU, allowing the Stars just three runs on four hits while striking out nine.

Now 14-7 overall and 0-2 in the SAC, the Bison host OCU Friday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
