Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Norman that started when a man attacked a worker at a nearby fast food restaurant.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sinclair station at Main and Hal Muldrow. Police say the situation began when the suspect walked into a nearby Wendy's restaurant and hit a female employee. The man also had a knife.

Employees called police after the man left and an officer located him at the Sinclair station. Police say the suspect advanced toward the officer with the knife, refusing to drop it when she ordered him to. She pulled her weapon and fired several shots, striking the suspect.

That suspect was rushed to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. His name has not been released.

Police have taped off a large area while they investigate the shooting. The Wendy's employee has a welt on her face, but is otherwise okay.
