Police are searching for an Oklahoma Department of Corrections escapee who may be armed with a gun.
An officer pulled over a car Monday afternoon at Western and Stracka Terrace. The officer realized the man behind the wheel, identified as Kristopher Johnson, was an escapee. That's when Johnson took off in a dark gray Nissan Titan.
Police later determined the car was stolen.
Police lost Johnson in a neighborhood near S.W. 78th Street and Penn. Police found the stolen car in a neighborhood near S.W. 81st Street and Douglas Drive, which is just southwest of Interstate 240 and Western. Officers swarmed the area. News 9 has been told police believe Johnson is hiding in a house.
"We're still not clear who this person is, if it is the escapee from seven days ago or not, because no one in law enforcement has actually seen the individual yet, but the individual who is in this house we have reason to believe is armed from some anonymous information we have received," Capt. Dexter Nelson said.
Only a few homes were evacuated here as police searched for Johnson.
News 9 has learned Johnson walked away from the Union City Community Corrections Facility on July 7. He was there on drug charges.
