An Oklahoma City police car sustained heavy damage after police say a suspect high on meth deliberately crashed a stolen pickup truck into the cruiser.

Around 3 a.m., the police officer spotted the truck on Walker near Interstate 40. He ran the tags and realized the truck was stolen.

The officer attempted to pull the truck over near a convenience store; but police say that's when the driver – identified as 43-year-old Howard Keith Erler – stopped the truck, put it in reverse and deliberately slammed into the new police cruiser.

Police say Erler then jumped out of the truck and tried to run away, but he was later caught hiding at a nearby apartment complex.

Erler was arrested, but police say he was so high on meth that he had to be taken to a hospital before being booked into the Oklahoma County jail.

The officer involved in the crash was not hurt.
