Oklahoma City Police arrested a man who called 911 and claimed he was being followed and shot at, after the same man rammed another vehicle, right in front of police.

Police say 56-year-old Steven Thrower called 911 Wednesday just before 8 p.m., and told a dispatcher he was being followed by someone in a white Dodge Challenger in the area of N.W. 36th Street and Western. Thrower said the driver of the other vehicle was shooting at him.

A few minutes later, a police officer spotted the Challenger turning left onto N.W. 63rd from Western, and pulled the vehicle over.

As the officer approached the vehicle, he saw a black Range Rover -- driven by Thrower -- make an illegal U-turn in the intersection. The officer said Thrower accelerated, swerved from the southbound inside lane of Western into the turn lane, and rammed into the driver's side of the Challenger.

The officer ran to the passenger's side of the Challenger and helped the driver out. Because Thrower earlier told a 911 dispatcher the Challenger driver had a gun, the officer ordered the driver to get on the ground and stay there.

Another police officer arrived and took Thrower into custody. When asked why he rammed the other vehicle, Thrower said he'd seen the Challenger turned around behind the police officer, and he was trying to stop the vehicle when his foot accidentally slipped off the brake.

Thrower also said while the Challenger was following him, he saw the other driver put his hand out the window and making shooting motions, so he thought the driver had a gun.

When police searched the Challenger, they did not find any weapons.

Thrower was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail for assault with a deadly weapon, illegal U-turn, failure to keep right of center, and failure to show insurance.

The other driver was released at the scene.
