A fire that caused heavy damage to an abandoned house on N.W. 105th Terrace near Military Avenue may be the work of an arsonist, News 9 has learned.

Someone called 911 shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to report the fire. Fire crews arrived within minutes and put out the flames.

Neighbors tell News 9 the people who lived in the house recently moved to Dallas, and no one was currently living there.

While fighting the fire, crews found the words "RIP BABY" and "EPK" spray painted on the outside of the house. The house is across the street from another house that was recently the scene of a homicide investigation. There's still a makeshift memorial for the murder victim in the front yard of that house on Military Avenue.

Officials have not said if the fire is connected to that murder investigation.

One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, tells News 9 the neighborhood is "bad and filled with trouble makers."
