Police say the mother of two young girls refused to take them back to her Midwest City home after her adult son locked the children out of his house in Spencer.
An anonymous caller told police on Monday, August 19, that two sisters, ages 11 and 13, had been locked out of their house in the 8400 block of Sunset Terrace in Spencer. Officers went to the home and found the girls sitting outside.
The girls told police their older brother had locked them out, and given them a container filled with water, a package of ramen noodles, and some snacks. When asked where their mother was, the girls said she was at her home in Midwest City.
Police contacted the mother, identified as Karen Bradford. She said she knew the girls were locked out of the house, and agreed to come to the scene. A short time later, both she and her son, Aaron Bradford, arrived at the house. Police say Aaron Bradford admitted he'd left the girls alone and locked them outside.
Police learned Karen Bradford legally adopted the two sisters a few years ago, but said she couldn't deal with them anymore so she'd sent them to live with her two adult sons in Spencer. Officers say Karen Bradford also admitted to locking the girls out of her house in Midwest City, because she believed they stole items from the home.
As officers arrested Aaron Bradford, his mother informed police that she would not take the girls back to her house, and they needed to find some place for the children to stay.
Police then arrested both Karen Bradford and her son on complaints of child neglect and child abandonment. Officers contacted DHS to take custody of the children.
Police are also investigating other allegations of illegal drug use in the home around the girls.
