OK Lawmakers Respond To Gun Law Criticism After Australian Killed

In the wake of the senseless murder of East Central University student Chris Lane, Gov. Mary Fallin and Congressman Tom Cole respond to criticism of Oklahoma gun control laws.

Governor Fallin and Congressman Cole attended Thursday night's dedication of ECU's new $14 million Chickasaw Conference Center. Since police say 22-year-old Chris Lane was shot and killed last Friday by three young thugs in Duncan, officials in Lane's home country of Australia have been critical of American gun control policies. Governor Fallin says that criticism is misguided.

"The fact of the matter is these people were using a gun that had been stolen," she said.

Fallin says the state of Oklahoma will make sure those responsible for Lane's death will be prosecuted. "And justice will be done," she said.

Three teens – ages 15, 16, and 17 – have been charged in the Melbourne native's death. They reportedly told police they decided to shoot Lane because they were bored.

Lane's body has been returned to his home country of Australia.
