A mother's offers a desperate plea for justice. It was one year ago Sunday that 23-year-old Ciar Pierce was shot and killed at a bar in Spencer. The killer is still on the loose, but his family and friends are determined to not let the case go cold.

"It's been a very difficult year," said Sarah Burdine, Pierce's mother. "The hardest thing is losing my son. The second hardest thing is there hasn't been any arrest."

Burdine met other family members and friends of her son at the last place Pierce were seen alive, in the parking lot of what used to be Shaker's Sports Bar in Spencer. Pierce was with friends at bar last year when gunfire erupted, and he was hit and killed.

"When people stop talking about it, then it goes cold," Burdine said. "I want the community first of all to remember my son, remember that this is an unsolved murder."

Pierce was a former standout basketball player at Classen School of the Arts and worked at Ralph Ellison library. He leaves behind an 8-month-old daughter, Ciara, who was born after his death.

"It's very frustrating, because I want her [Ciara] to know that justice was served," said Lashonda Laskey, Ciara's mother. "There were over 200 people that night, so someone saw something, heard something, knows something and not only for me but for my daughter, I just want them to come forward."

As family and friends leave messages on a poster for Pierce at Sunday's brief memorial service, they hope they community realizes the true message they are sending out, for justice to be served.

"There's somebody out there that took my son's life that's walking free," said Burdine. "I don't want the community to forget that."
