A police officer was injured Tuesday night after a suspected drunken driver crashed into his patrol car in front of the Yukon Police Department at Main and Ranchwood.
Police say the officer was responding to a burglary report, and was making a U-turn when the suspect crashed his vehicle into the police cruiser.
The man, who is in his 20s, was going 60 mph while the speed limit is 35 mph.
Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free the officer from the car. His condition is unclear at this time.
Police suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, and even admitted to officers that he'd been drinking. Police also found open containers of alcohol in his car. The suspect was checked out at a hospital before being taken to jail.
Yukon police are currently waiting on results of a blood alcohol test for the driver.
The officer involved in the crash has been in law enforcement for six years. He has been with Yukon police for one year.
Police have not identified the officer or the driver at this time. The crash is still under investigation.
