The FBI and Norman police officers together arrested a man accused of robbing a Norman bank while dressed in drag.
John Paul Matthews, 44, was arrested around 2 a.m. Tuesday. He is accused in the robbery of the Republic Bank and Trust located at 1200 E. Lindsey Street in Norman.
According to FBI, a man dressed in women's clothing entered the bank on Monday around 6:55 p.m., approached a teller and gave the teller a note demanding money and indicating he had a gun.
Investigators say a witness saw the suspect get in a white Cadillac and recognized him from surveillance pictures released in the media. The witness gave the license plate number to investigators, which in turn, led them to the 1700 block of Classen in Norman. It was here, where FBI and Norman police found Matthews and arrested him.
Matthews is also a suspect in a similar robbery of the Arvest Bank at 1335 W. Lindsey in Norman that occurred on September 27.
Matthews was booked into the Grady County jail. He faces federal bank robbery charges for both robberies.
