A displaced Moore family living in Edmond said their new school district did not take a threat of violence seriously.

Terri Martin said another Cross Timbers Elementary School student talked about shooting her son last Wednesday. She believes the punishment was minimal.

"I told on him for saying he was going to shoot me in the head," said the 10-year-old boy.

Martin said her son did not go to school Monday because he said he was too scared of a fellow student.

"I don't want to go to school because I don't want anything to happen," he said.

According to the fourth grader, the boy who threatened him also said he would "get him back" since the school suspended him for two days.

Martin said the punishment was not strict enough and the district should have a zero tolerance policy for threats of violence.

"It's not being taken seriously at all as far as we can see," Martin explained. " It's just being sloughed under the rug."

Martin said the boy who made the threat was moved to another classroom after his suspension, but she wanted him relocated to another school.

She said she met with the Cross Timbers principal Cathey Bugg, who confirmed that nothing would happen long term to the boy who made the threat.

"It's going to take something happening, a kid actually acting on a comment like that, before something is considered ‘serious,'" Martin said.

Martin said she has a meeting with the school district on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

The district sent this statement:

"Edmond Public Schools takes very seriously threats of this nature and has undertaken a full investigation into the incident. There is another side of the story that differs from the parents' account. However, due to federal and state privacy laws the details of the incident cannot be divulged. Many considerations were taken into account when determining the most appropriate disciplinary action for this specific incident."
