English Family In OKC To Treat Cancer-Stricken Daughter

Nine weeks ago the Edmondson family traveled 4,492 miles from England to be right here in Oklahoma.

Each week has consisted of cancer treatments at ProCure Proton Therapy Center for the family's 6-year-old daughter, Jahzara.

Jahzara Edmondson has many hobbies, but one for sure is baking brownies. When not decorating her brownies with sprinkles, Jahzara is in the treatment rooms of Procure Proton Therapy Center.

"I have to have my mask made and lay down very still on the table," said Jahzara.

Jahzara and her family came to Oklahoma City from Manchester, England.

"We were thinking more about her treatment and it has been a wonderful experience," said dad, Eje Edmondson.

Her treatment is for a golf ball sized tumor that lies in back of Jazarah's brain; something the family discovered in June.

"It was a bit of a shock, we weren't expecting that at all. She didn't have any symptoms," said Eje.

"We can dramatically limit the radiation the brain gets," said Dr. Andrew Chang.

Chang specializes in proton therapy and has treated Jahzara since the beginning. He says proton therapy limits the common side effects with radiation.

"It will just target the tumor and allows us to limit the damage to the healthy tissue," said Chang.

Today, Jahzara graduates from therapy with hopes she has a long cancer free future.

"It's not what any parent wants to go through, but the staff has been so wonderful," said mom, Gill Edmondson.

Chang did say they have a very good chance the cancer does not come back. Jahzara also mentioned that throughout the nine weeks of treatments she didn't feel any pain at all And she's looking forward to going home in four days.
