A teenager is under arrest, accused of murdering missing teen JaRay Wilson.
Authorities say more arrests are possible in the case that has gained national attention. On Tuesday morning, investigators found a human skeleton in a rural area just north of Weatherford. They believe the skeleton is the remains of JaRay Wilson.
The suspect's mom was in tears as she spoke to News 9's Michael Konopasek moments after learning of her son's arrest.
"It was just hard knowing [JaRay] was from Weatherford and that something like this could happen in our community," JaRay's friend Colton Kardokus told News 9.
Under arrest for the crime is Tucker McGee, 19, of Weatherford. His mom was heartbroken Tuesday as she shied away from News 9's camera outside her Weatherford home. Off camera, she told News 9 she would be okay.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with [both families]," McGee's neighbor Dan Kurtenbach said. "We're shocked and trying to deal with this. It's really tough."
It's been more than a year since JaRay went missing, sparking a national search, when all along investigators now believe she was just a few miles away.
"A bunch of people were kind of shocked that she was found after how long she had been gone," Weatherford High School freshman Danny Gomez said.
Former classmates at Weatherford High School say they are praying that JaRay is still alive. Although, if not, they hope Tuesday's discovery will help JaRay's family find closure.
"[JaRay] had a great spirit," said Kardokus. "She always knew how to make you smile. She was a great friend to me back then."
Investigators are still working with forensic scientists to be 100 percent sure the remains are that of JaRay Wilson. McGee is being held at the Custer County Jail in Arapaho.
Court records show McGee was arrested for possession of drugs about a month after investigators say he killed JaRay. Authorities say information obtained while interviewing McGee helped lead to his arrest.
