All lanes of eastbound Interstate 40 have reopened Thursday morning after multiple accidents and icy roads shut down a stretch of the highway.
Vehicles slipped and slid into each other as icy spots formed on bridges and overpasses across the metro. As the accidents stacked up, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was forced to shut down I-40 eastbound at the Dallas and Ft. Smith junctions around 6:45 a.m.
Multiple wreckers were called to I-40 to help clear away damaged cars. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation also sent sand trucks to the scene to cover those icy spots.
There were some injuries. Ambulances transported people involved in some of the accidents to hospitals. The severity of their injuries was not known.
The OHP reopened I-40 at around 8:45 a.m.
