OHP Identifies Suspect Killed In Pursuit, Shootout With Troopers

The suspect Zachary Sumner, 35, of Midwest City died from his injuries in the shooting over the weekend.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the identity of the man involved in a pursuit with troopers which led to a shootout.

The suspect Zachary Sumner, 35, of Midwest City died from his injuries in the shooting over the weekend.

According to an OHP spokesman, the suspect led the deputies on a pursuit on I-35 just after midnight on Saturday, January 25. It ended when the suspect got off I-40 at the Sunnylane Road exit in Del City.

OHP said Sumner was shot and killed outside a vacant house. The two troopers chasing him were also hit when the suspect opened fire.

Trooper Chris Bunch, a one year veteran with the Patrol, sustained a leg wound and Trooper Ryan Smith, an eight year veteran with the Patrol, suffered a facial wound. Both have been released from the hospital.

Authorities have not released any details on what started the pursuit.
