Homeowners across the metro are complaining about a spike in their utility bills for the past two months as the cost to keep homes warm in the frigid cold goes up.

"In December and even in this past January have shot through the roof," explained Lee Adkins, who lives in an 800 sq. ft. house in Bethany. "The last month was 90+ dollars and this month is actually 90+ dollars."

Adkins said the usual winter rate he had paid in previous winter was around $40 - $50. His house is heated with natural gas and his bills have now doubled. Adkins is not alone. Dozens of viewers posted on the News 9 Facebook Page about their rate going way up compared to past winter.

"They said everybody's is higher this month, nothing we can do about it. It's just so cold," said Adkins.

"Everybody from living in apartments to bigger houses are paying an extremely abnormal amount for this time of years but due to the cold weather I'm assuming that we're just stuck with it right now."
