OK Family Of Man Murdered With Baseball Bat Still Seeks Answers

Tuesday, friends and family of the man killed in a baseball bat attack laid him to rest. Those who knew and loved Ricky Betancur are now left waiting for justice, as the man accused of killing him sits in jail and waits for formal charges to be filed.

Eric Noyola is being held without bond while prosecutors determine if he will be charged with murder or if he acted in self-defense. Meanwhile the family of Ricky Betancur has a plea to those who were at the ballpark the night of the fight.

"The family wants the truth," said Amy Sanders, one of Ricky Betancur's cousins, who says she still can't believe he is really gone.

Sanders sat down with News 9 hours before Betancur's funeral to thank all those who have rallied to their side.

"The entire family is very appreciative of the donations and the prayers and the love and support," said Sanders. "This is a parent's worst nightmare - to lose a child."

Now Betancur's family is asking for answers and for those who were at the Boomer Sports Complex the night of the fight to come forward. They especially want to hear from those who shot video or took pictures with their phones while it was going on.

"In this day and age people have their phones - they are real willing to pull them out when things like this are happening," said Sanders. "It could bring some piece of mind to Ricky's parents about what really happened that night."

Sanders says Ricky had recently moved to Woodward, but was in town for his son's birthday - and came to the Boomer Sports Complex to watch some former teammates play ball the night of April 19.

However, somehow Ricky got involved in a brawl involving dozens of people, including Eric Noyola - who now stands accused of killing Ricky after striking him with a bat. Noyola's attorney says Eric acted in self-defense.

"That's almost as upsetting as losing Ricky -there being different stories," said Sanders.

The ball field has no video of the fight - even though there are signs that say there is surveillance video 24/7. That's why the family hopes a person who witnessed the attack does have video and shares it with police.

"And that's all they want," said Sanders. "They want the truth and for Ricky to be remembered."

There will also be a softball tournament to help the family raise money for Betencur's medical and funeral expenses. It will be held at Boomer Softball Complex in Oklahoma City this Saturday May 3.
