OKLAHOMA CITY - The Boys and Girls Club was forced to close due to flooding after Monday morning's heavy rainfall.

Two and a half inches of standing water covered the 35,000 sq. ft. building creating significant damage. Restoration crews are working to dry and sanitize the club so it can reopen by next week.

According to Jane Sutter the President and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club, the building flooded five years ago because of bad drainage from Memorial Park which is located behind the club.

"I am devastated by it," said Sutter. "We were having a great summer. We were serving 325 kids a day and doing all kinds of wonderful activities with them and keeping them from being home alone or on the streets getting in trouble."

Sutter said there is a financial liability of $50,000-$100,000 that insurance will most likely not cover because it is considered "an act of God".

An alternative location for the children to spend time while the issue is being resolved has not been provided.
