EMSA Celebrates Mascot Dog's Homecoming In OKC

EMSA crews celebrated the return of their mascot dog, Major 10-7, Friday night.

According to EMSA's Lara O'Leary, Major 10-7 hobbled into their operations facility around 10 p.m. and was greeted by medics will hugs and cheers.

O'Leary said Major 10-7 was immediately taken to a veterinarian for what they originally thought was a broken leg, but, on Saturday, EMSA officials reported her injury as a severe laceration on her foot. They said the dog will get to go "home" but will have to see the veterinarian over the next few weeks to care for her wound. O'Leary said the veterinarians are hoping they will not have to amputate her foot or toes.

Major 10-7 was playing in the area of S.W. 23rd and Walker around 6 a.m. Friday when she ran across the street and got hit by a car, according to officials.

After being hit by the car, she reportedly took off running, and crews spent all day Friday searching for her.

“10-7 has been with EMSA for a year and has been the medics ‘therapy dog,' providing love and care after medics endure a tough shift on the streets,” O'Leary said.

EMSA said they want to thank all of the citizens who helped search for Major 10-7.

"Ironically, it was as though 10-7 was watching the 10 p.m. news. While her disappearance was being broadcast, she hobbled into Post 41," said O'Leary. "Medics were watching her on the news, and seconds later, she was standing beside them!"
