It's been a very dry month across the state for the most part. September on average is our third wettest month of the year, averaging 4.08” in Oklahoma City. So far this month we've seen 2.17 inches and that generally all fell at the start of the month.

Some areas in the state looking at three to three and half weeks since they've seen any rain. So a pattern change is a must or we'll be seeing the drought come roaring back into the extreme category if we don't seeing some rain.

Luckily, we're seeing signs of a brief pattern change this week that'll bring some cooler air and some rain chances. This will come in two different pieces of energy and after the second wave the cooler air will arrive.

The first piece of energy will be moisture starved and a little too far to the north to produce that much rain. So we're only expecting a slight chance of storms Monday night into Tuesday across the northwestern half of the state.

The second wave will come in stronger, further south and will have a little more moisture in front of it. So rain chances will be higher and will ramp up as you go from west to east. The timing of this storm system isn't in stone yet. So the exact timing will affect severe weather chances and how much rain will actually fall across the area.

Right now this doesn't look like a heavy widespread rain maker for the state. The highest chances of rain will be across the central and eastern half of the state Wednesday night into Thursday morning. You'll definitely want to pay attention to the latest forecast for the days to come and think rain.
