Oklahoma City police have arrested a suspect who broke into several businesses at a shopping center and attempted to hide from officers on the roof.

Police and fire crews responded to a strip mall near Northwest Expressway and Meridian, after getting a call that a person broke in, and tried to steal money out of a safe inside the Jason's Deli Restaurant.

Police finally found the man they were looking for stuck between the dry wall and the brick wall in the back room of a local cell phone store several doors down.

He has been identified as 46-year-old Michael Mayfield, a convicted felon who has been in prison three times since 1988. He will now probably be making a return trip for tearing up all these businesses.

“I thought they must have him cornered,” said Terry Timmons, who works at the donut shop on the other side of this wall and was actually inside while Mayfield was next door.

But police got her out of there before he started breaking through dry wall in his desperate attempt to escape.

“So he was just plowing his way through,” said Timmons.

Mayfield busted through several different businesses trying to make his getaway. And at the final business he tried to break through the back wall but encountered this brick wall instead.

Police finally found Mayfield in the back storage room of a cell phone store.

He was stuck between the dry wall and the brick wall, with no place else to turn.

He not only left behind a trail of blood, but a very big mess that now, these business owners have to clean up.

“It is a big mess, but it is what it is,” said Armando Chavez, who owns the nail shop that also had several walls damaged.

Police are now checking to see if Mayfield is responsible for several other business break-ins that have happened around the metro in recent months.

But for now he's staying put, at the Oklahoma County jail on a $17,000 bond.
