Oklahoma City police officers are serving the community in a different way. Friday morning, they got the opportunity to play Santa at the department's yearly “Shop With A Cop” event.

This year's event took place at 9:30 a.m. at Target, located at 800 SW 44th Street.

According to police, 35 students from Pierce Elementary School got the chance to shop with an officer. They were given $100 each by Target and Oklahoma City Police Department's Athletic League to spend however they choose.

Organizers said most of the children spent it on their families for Christmas.

Thanks to donations and fundraisers, police were able to help 10 additional kids this year.
