It was a frightening night last Thursday after a car plows into a northwest OKC convenience store.

The crash sent a clerk and a pregnant woman to the hospital. And for the first time we are hearing from the expecting mother and her own mother who rushed in to save her.

Veteran EMSA paramedic-dispatcher Carla Pemberton spends her days sending help to 911 callers. Last Thursday, she found herself on the other end of a 911 call.

“They made intrusion all the way into the store. I got three injured patient,” Carla told a 911 dispatcher.

That night Carla was outside pumping gas while her daughter went inside to pay.

“I was actually hanging over the car talking to the kids and I heard tired start to squeal. Like someone was taking off,” said Carla.

Carla took off running into the store knowing her pregnant daughter was inside. Her daughter says a last minute craving saved her life.

“I was standing at the first register about 45 seconds before maybe a minute, and I tried to quit drinking Coke and I decided I really wanted one. So I walked towards the back of the store and he blew through the front of it. There wasn't much left of where I was standing before,” said Carla's daughter, Veronica.

Inside the convenience store, Carla says the driver, 45-year-old Paul Wiafe, continued to floor the accelerator.

“The clerk who was injured was laying [sic] in front of his bumper and he still had his foot on the accelerator,” said Carla.

Carla beat on the man's window until he finally put the car in park.

“My next thing was [to] call 911 because that's our training. Get emergency vehicles started before you do anything else,” she said.

With the help from another man in the store, Carla began helping the injured.

Just 24 weeks into her pregnancy, the crash caused contractions sending Veronica to the ER.

“I felt what I thought was a kick, which I hadn't felt this time around yet, and I was like, you know, maybe that's just me still being shook up. And then she started to get really active. Ok she's letting us know she's ‘OK,'” said Veronica Pemberton.

Veronica now plans to name her daughter Faith, for the faith she had that her unborn daughter would survive.

Police arrested Wiafe charging him with DUI.
