Kristopher Wright says the two men he encountered had their car hood up and jumper cables in hand when they flagged him down and asked him to give them a jump. Instead they jumped him.
“I was just thinking, seriously, I'm helping you guys out,” said Wright from his apartment in Northwest Oklahoma City.
Wright is now having second thoughts about helping people out. All because of what happened to him at the Riverchase Apartments near Penn and Hefner on Dec. 21.
Police released this surveillance video on Monday that shows Wright helping out what he thought were two stranded motorists.
"Spent a good 30 minutes or so just chatting and talking and trying to get the car started," said Wright.
And when they couldn't start the car, they asked Wright to give them a ride to the other end of the complex.
"Next thing I know, there's a knife at my throat,” said Wright. “And then I had these 2 and a half pound weight plates in the front seat - and the guy next to me had that in his hand and he's over me."
Wright says they then attacked him while they were all inside the car.
“They hit me all around the head,” said Wright. “I had a lot of concussions and swelling. I had 5 staples right about here.”
Wright even had to have stiches in his chest, where one of the suspects stabbed him. They even beat him when he covered his eyes, leaving his knuckles bloody and bruised and still in a lot of pain.
Police managed to arrest 23-year-old Anthony Marcus McNack for the attack after getting a tip. But his partner in crime is still on the loose.
And there is just one thing that kept them from taking Kristopher's yellow mini cooper. It's a push start car and the crooks couldn't figure out how to get it to work.
Wright says he's helped people before without a thought, but says now he probably won't.
“I would call the police and let them know someone is broken down and needs help, but I am not going to stop and help somebody again,” said Wright.
