An early morning winter weather event has brought rain and snow to parts of Oklahoma, causing some highways to be slick. Some Oklahoma schools have already decided to cancel classes for the day.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 p.m. Thursday for several counties, including Beckham, Washita, Harmon and Greer Counties, according to the National Weather Service in Norman.

More Oklahoma counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory. See a complete list here.

According to a road condition update released by The Oklahoma Department of Transportation at 11 a.m., crews continue plowing and treating bridges and highways in Cimarron and Texas counties in the panhandle. Drivers in these locations should take extra time and use caution if traveling through the area as surrounding bridges and overpasses are slick.

In western and southwestern parts of the state, the snow has tapered off and crews have been able to clear the roads. I-40 is still a little slick in spots but crews should be finished after noon.

Crews in central Oklahoma and the metro are no longer monitoring conditions as the storm has passed.

If drivers must travel out of state, especially west to Texas or New Mexico, they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out.
