Deputy canine officer ‘Cairo' of the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office was responsible for yet another big drug bust.

This time it was crystal meth. And News 9 learned it was all in the training.

Cairo has only been on the job for about a year. After a traffic stop Thursday he immediately sniffed out five pounds of meth, which on the street was worth more than $60,000.

Cairo was no stranger to making big drug busts. In May he helped get four arrested in Choctaw after he sniffed out meth inside their vehicle.

Two months later, a man was arrested after Cairo signaled drugs inside what turned out to be a stolen vehicle.

“Just got him last year, and already he's been worth his weight in gold, most definitely as far as getting drugs off the streets,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, Mark Myers.

Thursday just before 5 p.m., a sheriff's deputy said he saw 39-year-old Zully Penate swerving out of the center lane off I-240.

The deputy pulled her over in a service road parking lot and said Penate was extremely nervous, even short of breath. When asked to get out of her pick-up, she told the deputy she had just urinated on herself!

“And her story really didn't match up as to what she was doing, and where she was going,” said Myers.

She told the deputy she was going to a friend's home to get drugs because she was sick. Turns out, she already had drugs in the car; five cellophane wrapped bundles of meth hidden inside a FedEx package.

“Instantly Cairo alerted that there was a possibility of drugs inside the vehicle,” said Myers.

She told the sheriff's deputy she found the box in the street after she left her home on the south side, and was planning to return it.

The sheriff's deputy said the package was addressed to someone else.

“Cairo is a great dog for us, and doing an incredible job,” said Myers.

Penate has no drug history or a criminal record.

The mother spent a couple of days in the Oklahoma County Jail before being released on a $25,500 bond.
